On Friday, 31st May 2024 -The County Government of Kitui, UN Women Kenya, FAO, KOICA and Anglican development services jointly held a Close out workshop today in a Kitui Hotel.
The Project, which has been active from 2020 to 2023 was extended by six months due to COVID-19 disruptions to complete it’s implementation in Athi, Kauwi and Mutomo wards.
The four- year, gender- responsive, Climate -Smart project was executed in three ASAL Counties, including Kitui.
Leading the close-out meeting, County Executive for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele urged farmers to adopt climate- smart agriculture technologies to improve food and nutrition security.
“I’m glad that each farmer here has showcased the gains made through this project. Let’s embrace the techniques learned for sustainability and continuity beyond this project’s life” he noted.
“Embracing climate-smart agriculture isn’t just about protecting our environment; it’s about ensuring the future of farming, enhancing resilience, and sustaining livelihoods for generations to come.” He added.
He added that Governor Dr. Malombe’s administration is committed to encouraging farmers to adopt climate-smart agriculture and ensuring a prosperous future for our agricultural communities, with measures including the distribution of drought-tolerant seeds.
Dr. Kimwele was was accompanied by chief officer for Livestock Mr Jonathan Kyambi and other senior county officials.
