On Tuesday, an outstanding initiative by the County Government of kitui saw the handover of a sump well to the residents of Kalawa Village. The handover ceremony was led by the distinguished Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing Yatta Kwa Vonza. This significant infrastructure project, developed under the County Government’s irrigation cluster, is set to improve water accessibility for the people of Kalawa Village.
The sump well project is designed to support local farming activities and provide a reliable water supply to the community. The newly installed sump well will also play a crucial role in promoting irrigation, enhancing agricultural productivity, and improving the overall quality of life for the villagers.
In his remarks, the MCA emphasized the importance of the project for the local community. “This sump well marks the beginning of a brighter future for Kalawa Village. Access to water is a fundamental right, and we are committed to ensuring that every resident has access to clean and safe water,” he said.
He also noted that the pipeline would eventually be extended upwards to Kiliko Market, aiming to benefit a broader population in the region. “This is just the first phase of a larger project. Our goal is to extend this pipeline to Kiliko Market to serve even more people and ensure that the entire region has access to this vital resource,” the MCA added.
The project has been a collaborative effort between the MCA and the Governor of Kitui County, Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, EGH. Their close partnership has resulted in the successful implementation of various projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the residents.
Governor Malombe has been at the forefront of advocating for water and irrigation projects across the county, recognizing their impact on economic development and food security.
The residents of Kalawa Village expressed their gratitude for the new sump well, acknowledging that it would significantly alleviate the challenges they have faced due to water scarcity. “We are thankful to our MCA and the County Government for bringing this project to our village. It will make a huge difference in our lives,” said one of the community members.
As the project progresses, more villages within the Yatta Kwa Vonza region are expected to benefit from similar initiatives, underscoring the County Government’s commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
