The County Government of Kitui, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, on Monday conducted a comprehensive sensitization and training session for agricultural officers from Kitui Central Sub-county. The high-level engagement took place at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) and forms part of the ongoing efforts for the 3rd Quarter of the 2024/2025 Financial Year.
The session aimed to enhance agricultural production, productivity, and service delivery through the integration of modern technologies and streamlined processes. Officers were trained on productivity mainstreaming, effective data collection, and real-time reporting using the KoboCollect platform.
They were also sensitized on best practices in complaint handling, e-waste disposal, and other emerging issues crucial to agricultural extension services.County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, who led the forum, emphasized the need for data-driven decision-making in agricultural development.
“Our goal is to improve the quality of service we provide to farmers by ensuring that all our processes are streamlined, data is captured accurately, and we have effective mechanisms in place for feedback, in line with Governor Dr. Malombe’s manifesto,” he said.
Following the training, the team conducted field visits to three progressive farmers in Kitui Central. These included Francis from Utooni, Kyangwithya West, engaged in Meat Goats, Dairy Cows, Mango farming, and Pasture Development; Titus Munyasya of Mulango Ward, involved in Dairy Cattle, Poultry, Goats, and Ndengu (Green Gram) farming; and John Kimweli from Isaangwa, Kyangwithya West, focusing on Poultry production.
The field visits were designed to offer on-ground support, assess farming techniques, and identify areas for improvement in line with sustainable and climate-smart agriculture.Dr. Mbaya was accompanied by Chief Officers Gladys Kivoto (Fisheries), Jonathan Kyambi (Livestock), and other senior ministry officials.
The county team reaffirmed their commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity across all sub-counties.The sensitization drive continues as the ministry rolls out similar engagements in other sub-counties, reinforcing its agenda for sustainable agriculture and economic empowerment for local farmers.
