PS Jonathan Mueke Visits Tisuka Women Group in Support of Kienyeji Chicken Pilot Project

Date:

Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, today visited the Tisuka Women Group in Kitui East Constituency, where he was hosted by MCA Hon. Mamen. The visit comes three weeks after the launch of the Kienyeji chicken pilot project, an initiative spearheaded by the State Department for Livestock Development to promote rural economic empowerment.

The Tisuka Women Group is among the first beneficiaries of the project and received a batch of one-month-old chicks during the initial rollout. During today’s visit, the group proudly showcased the remarkable progress of their poultry, demonstrating dedication and commitment to the initiative.

In a show of continued support, PS Mueke donated 150 kilograms of chicken feed and a solar panel to the group to help enhance their poultry production. The support aims to strengthen the sustainability and growth of smallholder agribusinesses in rural communities.

Speaking at the event, PS Mueke reaffirmed the government’s commitment to livestock commercialization as a key pillar in transforming livelihoods in rural Kenya. “Empowering community groups like Tisuka Women with skills, resources, and sustainable support systems is critical to our agenda of boosting income and food security at the grassroots level,” he said.

The Kienyeji chicken pilot project is part of broader efforts by the State Department to drive innovation and value addition in the livestock sector under the theme of #NiSaaSyaKwaka — It’s Our Time to Prosper.
