Residents of Mamole in Makusya village, Kitui Rural, have a reason to celebrate following the successful completion of a major infrastructure project – the longest slap drift ever constructed in the area. The 0.5-kilometer-long drift was delivered by Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o, under the broader development agenda of the County Government of Kitui led by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.
The new drift now connects the previously cut-off villages, improving access to schools, health centers, markets, and other social amenities, especially during the rainy seasons when rivers often flood and isolate communities.
The drift will ease transport and enhancing economic activities in Makusya and the larger Kitui Rural constituency.
“This is not just a drift; it is a bridge to better opportunities for the people of Mamole and neighboring villages. I thank Governor Malombe for prioritizing this region and ensuring no village is left behind,” said Hon. Nding’o.
Local residents welcomed the development, terming it a “lifeline” and a “long overdue” solution to their long-standing transport challenges.
The project is among several rural connectivity initiatives being implemented across Kitui County, aimed at boosting service delivery and improving livelihoods through reliable infrastructure.
