Former Kitui Senatorial aspirant Stephen Kilonzo has officially ditched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya, a party led by opposition chief Kalonzo Musyoka. The move marks a significant political shift in Kitui County as alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kilonzo’s entry into the Wiper fold has been formally approved, positioning him as a key contender for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in 2027. The seat is currently held by Makali Mulu, who is widely expected to vie for the Kitui gubernatorial seat under the same party, potentially opening up the constituency race.
Speaking exclusively to TCD Digital, Kilonzo described his defection as a major turning point in his political journey. He termed the move as a “fresh start” and “a promising new beginning” after a period of political uncertainty, expressing confidence that his decision aligns with the aspirations of the people he seeks to represent.
He revealed that his decision followed extensive consultations with political allies, advisors, and mentors, noting that leadership demands listening to the voice of the people. Kilonzo emphasized that the growing call for a new political direction informed his choice to join Wiper, a party he said resonates with the needs and expectations of wananchi.
Kilonzo reaffirmed his commitment to his supporters, pledging to serve with integrity, courage, and tangible results. He called for unity and cooperation as he embarks on building a people-centered political movement under the Wiper banner, expressing optimism about securing overwhelming support in his 2027 parliamentary bid.
