Makueni Senator Daniel Maanzo Served With Defamation Demand Over Leaked Audio

Date:

Senator Daniel Maanzo has been served with a legal demand letter over alleged defamatory remarks contained in a leaked audio conversation that has been widely circulated on social media platforms.

In a letter dated May 29, 2026, Nairobi-based E. Omulloh Advocates, acting on behalf of Anita Mutula, accused the Makueni Senator of making false, offensive and degrading statements about their client during a recorded conversation with Josephat Mutua, popularly known as “Musoma The Great.”

According to the advocates, the conversation was leaked on May 27 and subsequently shared across several WhatsApp groups with large memberships, including forums focused on Makueni County affairs and development. The law firm argues that the widespread circulation of the audio exposed their client to public ridicule and caused significant reputational harm.

The advocates state that Anita Mutula is a private citizen and that the matters discussed in the conversation were personal in nature and served no legitimate public interest. They further allege that the statements were malicious and that no effort was made to retract or limit the spread of the audio after it became public.

In the demand letter, the Senator is required to immediately cease any further sharing of the conversation, delete all copies within his possession or control, issue an unconditional public apology across the platforms where the audio was circulated, provide a written undertaking against future publication of similar content, and admit liability.

The law firm warned that failure to comply with the demands within the stipulated timeframe would result in the filing of urgent legal proceedings seeking injunctive orders, damages and legal costs.

Copies of the letter were also addressed to Josephat Mutua and the firm’s client. By the time of publication, Senator Daniel Maanzo had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the demand letter.
