Kitui Governor Malombe commissions 11million water project in Mumoni

Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has commissioned the KSh 10.86 million Kyoea–Mwingi Pipeline Extension to Kalatine project in Mumoni Ward, Mwingi North Sub-county, marking another milestone in the county’s efforts to improve access to clean and safe water for residents.

The project, implemented during the 2025/2026 Financial Year, is part of the County Government of Kitui’s wider strategy to strengthen water infrastructure and enhance water security across Mumoni Ward. County officials say the investment is expected to significantly improve livelihoods by ensuring a reliable water supply to communities that have long faced water challenges.

The newly commissioned pipeline extends water from the Kiambere–Mwingi Main Pipeline to the areas of Kakuyu, Kativa Ngii, and Kalatine. The extension is designed to bridge long-standing gaps in access to clean water and reduce the burden on residents who have often travelled long distances in search of the resource.

To improve accessibility for local residents, the project includes three community water kiosks strategically established to serve households within the targeted areas. The kiosks are expected to provide a dependable and affordable source of clean water for daily domestic use.

In addition to households, several public institutions are set to benefit from the initiative. The project will serve Kakuyu Primary School, Kalatine Primary School, Kalatine Secondary School, Kalatine Dispensary, and National Administration offices, ensuring a stable water supply for education, healthcare, and public service delivery.

County officials noted that improved access to water in schools will create a better learning environment for pupils and students, while healthcare facilities will benefit from enhanced sanitation and hygiene standards necessary for quality healthcare services

The project has now been placed under the management of Kiambere–Mwingi Water and Sanitation Company (KIMWASCO), which will oversee its operations and ensure sustainable water supply services for the targeted communities.

Authorities estimate that more than 100 households will benefit through individual water connections, a move expected to improve public health outcomes and stimulate social and economic activities within the area.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding access to clean water across the county, saying such investments are central to improving living standards and driving sustainable development.

The Governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, members of the County Executive, Mumoni Ward MCA Hon. Titus Kasinga, political and opinion leaders, as well as senior officers from both the County and National Governments who attended the event.
