Kitui Central parliamentary aspirant Hon. Stephen Kilonzo has expressed deep concern over the recent wave of killings targeting women in Kitui Central and surrounding areas, calling for immediate intervention by security agencies.
In a press statement issued on Monday, Kilonzo described the incidents as horrifying and alarming, noting that several women have recently been found murdered under mysterious circumstances in areas such as Kalundu, Slaughter, Ngiini, and other parts of Kitui.
He said the killings have left families devastated and residents living in fear, with many questioning whether enough is being done to protect innocent lives.
“As a leader and a son of this soil, I strongly condemn these heinous acts in the strongest terms possible. The killing of any person is unacceptable, but the continued targeting of women is particularly alarming and demands urgent action,” Kilonzo stated.
The aspiring MP noted that women in Kitui Central are increasingly afraid to move around, especially during evening hours, while parents and guardians remain worried about the safety of their daughters.
Kilonzo called on the National Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and other security agencies to intensify investigations and ensure those behind the killings are brought to justice without delay.
He further urged the Ministry of Interior to strengthen security operations within Kitui Central, increase surveillance in crime-prone areas, and provide residents with regular updates on the progress of investigations.
At the same time, he appealed to members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with law enforcement officers by sharing any information that could assist investigations.
Kilonzo also called for collective efforts to combat violence against women, emphasizing the need to uphold the dignity, safety, and protection of every woman and girl in society.
“A community that cannot protect its women has failed in its moral responsibility,” he said.
The politician conveyed his condolences to families who have lost their loved ones and vowed that leaders and residents would continue demanding justice for the victims.
He urged leaders across the political divide to unite in addressing the growing security concern, saying the safety of citizens must take precedence over politics.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. The women of Kitui deserve protection, and their families deserve answers,” Kilonzo said.
