Kitui West Set for Major Electrification as 26 Villages Benefit from Equalisation Fund
Kitui West is set for a major development boost after securing electricity connectivity for more than 26 villages through the KSh 618 million Equalisation Fund allocated by the National Government to Kitui County. The electrification programme is expected to expand access to reliable power for households, schools, health facilities and businesses, enhancing economic growth and improving livelihoods.
Speaking on the development, Kitui West parliamentary hopeful and Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) Commissioner Benedict Muasya said the project marks a significant milestone in addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps in underserved areas. He noted that increased access to electricity will open up new opportunities for education, healthcare and enterprise across the constituency.
Muasya said the allocation demonstrates the importance of equitable distribution of national resources and reaffirmed his commitment to championing development initiatives that directly benefit the people of Kitui West. He added that bringing electricity closer to residents will accelerate social and economic transformation in the constituency.
The commissioner further attributed the progress to sustained engagement with national stakeholders, saying the electrification programme reflects continued efforts to ensure Kitui West receives its fair share of development resources. He expressed confidence that the project will improve the quality of life for thousands of residents once fully implemented.
Later, Muasya joined other leaders from Kitui County during an economic empowerment drive in Mwingi West Constituency, where more than 60 women groups received financial support aimed at strengthening their businesses and improving household incomes. He reiterated that empowering communities economically, alongside expanding access to key infrastructure, remains essential to achieving inclusive and sustainable development across the county.
