Alex Katombi Steps Out of Kamba Festival, Calls for Organizers to Refocus

Kamba Benga superstar Alex Kasau Katombi has announced his decision to step out of the Kamba Festival and other events organized by bloggers, saying the move is intended to create opportunities for upcoming artists while giving the event a chance to regain its original purpose.

Katombi said he also wants emerging artistes such as Ndeke and Masekete to have an opportunity to perform on major stages. He explained that his decision was influenced by what he described as a loss of focus by the festival organizers, accusing them of prioritizing ticket sales and advertising at the expense of key aspects of the event.

According to Katombi, the main priorities of any successful entertainment event should include the welfare and performance of artists, the security of fans, quality sound, and proper services for attendees. He particularly questioned the experience of executive ticket holders, saying those who pay premium prices should receive services that match the amount they have spent.

The celebrated musician also appealed to the festival organizers to come together and restore the spirit with which the event was initially established. He urged them to consult one another and work collectively to improve services and the overall experience for both artists and fans.

“Come together again and make the event the way we started it. We used to consult each other for good services,” Katombi said, emphasizing that his intention is to speak openly about issues affecting the industry rather than fight anyone.

Katombi concluded by announcing that he will instead be focusing on the upcoming Twitjiane Mombasa event scheduled for September 18, 19 and 20, where he is expected to continue entertaining his fans.
