Members of the Kitui County Assembly’s watchdog committee – Public Investments and Accounts, led by the chairperson, Kauwi Ward MCA Hon. Gabriel Munyao, attended a Senate engagement meeting where H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, Governor of Kitui County, appeared before the Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee.

The engagement sought to seek progress made on status of actions taken by the County Government of Kitui to address unresolved issues raised in the Auditor-General’s report on the financial statements of the Kitui County Empowerment Fund and the Kitui County Textile Centre, KICOTEC, for the Financial Year 2024/2025.

During the session, the County Government provided sufficient information and clarifications on the queries raised by the Auditor-General, giving the Senate Committee sufficient information on the measures undertaken to address the outstanding issues.

Speaking during the engagement, the Chairperson of the Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee, Senator Johns Mwarumbe of Taita Taveta County, noted the good progress being made by KICOTEC towards achieving greater operational independence.

The Senate Committee acknowledged the growth and progress recorded by the facility, particularly efforts by its management to strengthen its operations and move towards self-sustainability.

The Senators, however, called for continued goodwill and support from the County Department of Trade to enable KICOTEC to build on the progress already made and achieve its full potential.

Governor Dr. Julius Malombe assured the Senate Committee that the County Government of Kitui remains committed to addressing all outstanding issues raised by the Auditor-General and strengthening accountability in the management of public resources.
