On August 17, 2026 – A tense incident was reported at Zombe Police Station in Kitui East after area Member of Parliament Hon. Nimrod Mbai reportedly arrived at the station accompanied by a large group of boda boda riders demanding the release of a Toyota Prado, registration KDV 111R.
According to a police incident report, the MP arrived at the station at about 10:05pm on August 17, 2026, as the vehicle was being held at the station yard in connection with a reported case of forceful entry into the homestead of former MP Kiema Kilonzo.
The report states that hundreds of boda boda riders allegedly stormed the police station while carrying firewood and threatening to set the facility ablaze.
As officers engaged the crowd, a driver who was reportedly in possession of the vehicle’s ignition key allegedly drove the Toyota Prado out of the station by force.
Police reported that no injuries were recorded during the incident.
The matter has been recorded as pending under inquiry (PUI), with the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Zombe, handling the case.
The incident comes amid heightened attention over the conduct of crowds and political leaders when dealing with police investigations and detained property.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the forceful removal of the vehicle and the alleged threats made against the police station.
