A wave of excitement is sweeping across Mwingi West as the tarmacking of the Kwa Siku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road gathers pace, opening up a new chapter of economic growth and improved connectivity for local communities.
Residents interviewed today at Kwa Siku trading centre, Thokoa market and Mbondoni market praised the transformative project, saying the modern road will ease transport, boost trade, reduce travel time and improve access to essential services.
They commended Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna for championing development through collaboration with the national government.
The excited residents stated that visionary leadership is measured by tangible results rather than political rhetoric.
“What we need is development, not party politics. We trust our MP for development,” Bentetah Katune, a local resident said.
She noted that the road will create business opportunities, increase the value of local produce and improve the movement of people and goods to between Mwingi and Kitui towns and beyond.
Another beneficiary who is celebrating the ongoing tarmacking is Joseph Musyoka, a boda operator, who says the project will transform their daily operations and improve their earnings.
He noted that for many years, the riders had grappled with a dusty, rough and potholed road that frequently damaged their motorcycles, increased maintenance costs and became nearly impassable during the rainy seasons.
He stated that with the completion of the tarmac, it will make transport safer, faster and more reliable while attracting more customers and business opportunities.
“We have struggled with this road for many years. During the dry season, the dust was unbearable, while heavy rains left it muddy and difficult to use. With the tarmacking, we expect to spend less on repairs, serve more customers and transport people and goods much faster,” Musyoka said.
The residents thanked MP Charles Nguna for prioritising this project because it will greatly improve their livelihoods and the economy of the area.
As construction progresses, optimism is growing that the road will become a major economic lifeline, further positioning Mwingi West for accelerated development and prosperity.
