Former Mwingi West parliamentary aspirant Patrick Ng’ere has officially declared his intention to contest the Kyome/Thaana Ward MCA seat in the 2027 General Election.
Ng’ere made the announcement while addressing residents at Mumbuni Grounds in Mwingi West during an empowerment and public engagement forum hosted by Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna.
His declaration adds to a growing trend in Kitui County where several politicians who previously contested or expressed interest in higher elective offices are now seeking positions at different levels ahead of the next election.
Among them is former gubernatorial aspirant Kiema Kilonzo, who has shifted focus to the Kitui East parliamentary race, where he is expected to face incumbent MP Nimrod Mbai. Former senatorial aspirant Kitundumo has also turned his attention to the Kitui Central parliamentary contest, a race that is expected to attract several contenders.
Political observers say such shifts could reflect strategic repositioning as aspirants seek offices they believe offer stronger electoral prospects. Others view the trend as a pragmatic adjustment to the changing political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.
With political realignments already underway across Kitui County, the race for elective seats is expected to intensify as parties prepare for nominations and campaigns.
