Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has joined Catholic faithful and leaders from across the country in witnessing the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Monsignor John Mbua Mwandi as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.
The historic ceremony, presided over by His Grace Philip Subira Anyolo, Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi, brought together hundreds of Catholic faithful, clergy, political leaders and other dignitaries to celebrate the new Bishop’s elevation to the episcopate.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Malombe congratulated Bishop Mwandi on behalf of the people of Kitui, describing his ordination and installation as a significant milestone for the Catholic Church and the people of the county.
Malombe wished the new Bishop wisdom, strength and God’s guidance as he assumes his pastoral responsibilities, while calling on the Catholic faithful to support him in his new ministry.“Bishop Mwandi has taken up a significant responsibility at an important time for the Church and our community.
I wish him God’s guidance and success as he begins his pastoral journey,” Malombe said.Bishop Mwandi thanked the faithful for standing with him throughout his journey and pledged to work closely with the clergy and the Catholic community as he begins his new ministry.
The colourful ceremony was attended by Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Senator Enock Wambua, Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu, Mwingi North MP Paul Nzengu, Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna and Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya, among other leaders and dignitaries.
The installation marks a new chapter for the Catholic Diocese of Kitui as Bishop Mwandi takes over the pastoral leadership of the diocese and begins his service to the faithful and the wider community.
