Commissioner for National Cohesion & Integration Commission Wakili Jerussah Muathime has urged Kenyans to prioritise national cohesion as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election, saying political competition should never come at the expense of unity.

Muathime said elections are an important part of democracy because they give citizens an opportunity to choose leaders, compare different visions and shape the future of the country. However, he cautioned political actors against allowing competition to divide communities or turn Kenyans against one another.

He called for respectful political discourse, peaceful engagement and tolerance of divergent views, while urging Kenyans to reject hate speech, incitement and political hostility.

As the country counts down to the 2027 General Election, Muathime said national cohesion must remain stronger than political competition. He emphasised that protecting peace and unity is a shared responsibility for leaders, political parties and citizens.

“Our peace, our responsibility,” Muathime said, urging Kenyans to embrace peaceful elections and safeguard the unity of the nation.
