Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward is set for a major sports transformation following the official site handover for the construction of a modern 10,000-seater stadium at Ngamyone Primary School in Kwavonza. The project, presided over by Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o, is expected to provide world-class sporting facilities for the region and nurture young talent.
Speaking during the site handover, Hon. Nding’o said the stadium will feature facilities for football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, athletics, and other sporting disciplines. He described the project as a significant milestone for sports development in Yatta Kwa Vonza, noting that it will create opportunities for youth to develop their talents and compete at higher levels.
“Our sportsmen and women will soon have a modern central playing field for soccer, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, athletics and other sporting categories. This facility will enhance sports and empower our youth to excel in their talents,” said Nding’o.
The MCA further noted that the stadium complements the ongoing Smart City project around South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU), saying the combination of modern infrastructure and educational investment will accelerate the growth of Kwavonza into a major urban centre.
“With the Smart City coming up in SEKU and now this football complex, Kwavonza will be a city away from the city,” he said, expressing confidence that the projects will attract investment, create employment opportunities, and improve the region’s socio-economic development.
Residents welcomed the stadium project, saying it will provide a modern venue for sporting events, youth empowerment programmes, and community activities while positioning Yatta Kwa Vonza as a regional hub for sports and talent development.
