Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna has hosted a women empowerment and public engagement forum at Kyethani Market in Kiomo-Kyethani Ward, drawing more than 3,000 residents for a programme that combined economic empowerment, voter registration and community development discussions.
The event brought together a number of leaders, including former Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza, Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo, Commissioner Ben Muasya, Joe Mutambu, nominated Senator Beth Syengo, Mwingi North MP aspirant Martha Mati, Kitui Rural MP aspirant John Kisangau and Kiomo-Kyethani MCA Antony Neymar, among others.
As part of the day’s activities, Nguna and fellow leaders participated in a women empowerment programme in Kyethani Location, where more than 40 women’s groups benefited from an initiative aimed at strengthening livelihoods and supporting women’s economic activities.
The programme highlighted the role of women in supporting families and driving community development, with leaders emphasising the importance of creating opportunities for women to achieve greater economic independence.
Nguna reiterated his commitment to empowering women, describing them as the backbone of the community and underscoring the broader impact of investing in women and their households.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for residents to engage with leaders on local development priorities, voter registration and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the community.
The MP was accompanied by nominated Senator Beth Syengo, Commissioner Ben Muasya, John Kisangau, Joe Mutambu, Antony Neymar, Priscilla Makumi and Martha Mati.
