A latest opinion poll conducted on Facebook has placed Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu ahead of her two fellow Wiper-linked contenders, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua and Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, in a hypothetical contest for the party’s 2027 Kitui gubernatorial ticket.
According to the results shared from the Facebook opinion exercise where a total of 178 members of the public voted.
Kasalu received 115 endorsements ( 64.61%) followed by Senator Enoch Wambua with 36 endorsements (20.22%), while Dr. Makali Mulu garnered 27 endorsements (15.17%)
The informal online poll gives Kasalu a notable lead among the respondents who participated, although its results should be viewed as an indication of sentiment among Facebook participants rather than a scientific countywide opinion survey.
The three leaders are among the prominent figures associated with the contest for the Wiper ticket as the race to succeed Governor Julius Malombe continues to attract political attention in Kitui. The Star has reported that Kasalu, Wambua and Mulu are all positioning themselves in the increasingly competitive Wiper nomination contest.
Kasalu has also featured strongly in other 11 recent opinion exercises. A Mizani Africa poll published in August placed her at 37.4% , ahead of Mulu at 22.1 p% and Wambua at 14.3 % in a broader Kitui gubernatorial field.
If the Facebook figures were replicated in a Wiper nomination exercise today, Kasalu would emerge with the highest number of endorsements among the three contestants in that particular online poll. However, the actual Wiper nomination outcome would depend on the party’s officially adopted nomination process, the electorate or delegates involved, and the rules governing the exercise.
The emerging figures add another layer to an already closely watched contest, with the eventual Wiper ticket expected to be one of the key factors shaping the 2027 Kitui gubernatorial race.
