Kitui Governor Dr Julius Makau Malombe has thrown his weight behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election, describing him as the surest opposition candidate capable of mounting a strong challenge for the country’s top seat.

Speaking at Kimani in Mutha Ward, Kitui South, Governor Malombe said the country had increasingly embraced Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions, urging residents to rally behind his candidature and support him “to the last man.”

Malombe particularly called on the Kamba community, and residents of Kitui South in particular, to remain united behind Kalonzo, saying the region should play its part in supporting his quest for the presidency.

The Governor also cautioned residents against being swayed by the ongoing distribution of relief food by Kenya Kwanza leaders, urging them to distinguish between short-term assistance and their long-term political interests.

Malombe urged residents of Kitui South not to “betray the country” by abandoning Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the region should remain steadfast in its political support.

His remarks come as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with opposition parties and leaders facing growing pressure to unite behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto.
