Commissioner Ben Muasya has joined fellow leaders in highlighting the importance of long-term development projects after inspecting the Umaa Dam project along River Nzeu in Kitui County.

Muasya accompanied Kitui South MP Dr Rachael Kaki Nyamai and other leaders during an empowerment and public engagement forum hosted by Kitui Central parliamentary aspirant Boniface Mutisya Musambi at Museve–Musekavo.

The forum brought together residents and leaders to discuss community priorities, development needs and possible solutions to challenges affecting local communities.

During the engagement, the leaders also toured the Umaa Dam project, which is expected to strengthen water supply to Kitui town and surrounding areas upon completion.

Available project information indicates that the dam is designed to hold approximately 1.2 billion litres of water and serve an estimated 75,000 people.

The project is also expected to support irrigation, offering potential opportunities for improved agricultural production and enhanced livelihoods among local residents.

Muasya’s visit underscored the significance of investing in infrastructure capable of addressing the county’s water needs today while laying the foundation for future development.
