The County Government of Kitui is expediting the finalisation of Local Land Use Plans for its three major urban centres to ensure orderly, sustainable urban development and prevent irregular settlements.
The Department of Lands, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the EU Digital Land Governance Programme (DLGP), the National Land Commission, and NEMA, has begun a comprehensive technical review workshop for the draft land use plans of the Mwingi, Kanyangi, Kabati, and Migwani urban markets.
These plans are essential tools that map the intended spatial arrangement of each planning area, defining clear land-use zoning and coordinated development patterns to guide organised human settlement, infrastructure expansion, and economic growth.
During the opening session, stakeholders identified information gaps, formed a Technical Working Group (TWG), and adopted a clear action plan to fast-track the review and approval process.
This initiative directly supports H.E. Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s 16-Point Agenda and the Planned Urban Development pillar of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023-2027 by creating accurate spatial data that will drive informed urban planning, resource allocation, and inclusive growth across Kitui’s towns.
The County Government of Kitui remains committed to ensuring that every urban centre develops in a structured, sustainable, and people-centred manner
