The County Government of Kitui is stepping up efforts to expand access to clean and reliable water through strengthened partnerships with development organisations, with the Mwaani–Yiuku–Endau–Malalani pipeline extension project expected to benefit more than 28,000 residents across three wards.
The project is set to improve water access for households while supporting essential institutions, including 14 primary schools, five secondary schools and three health facilities. Once implemented, the pipeline extensions are expected to ease the burden on communities that struggle to access reliable water for domestic use and other daily needs.
During the current financial year, the county government has allocated KSh 41 million towards the pipeline extension projects, with World Vision contributing an additional KSh 20 million. The joint investment underscores the importance of collaboration between county governments and development partners in addressing water challenges and improving the livelihoods of local communities.
The partnership will also support the proposed River Enziu–Malalani shallow well water supply project, estimated to cost KSh 15 million. The initiative is expected to complement ongoing efforts to improve water availability in the area, particularly for communities that depend on limited and often unreliable water sources.
The projects were discussed during a courtesy call by Kitui World Vision representative Gibson Kimani on Governor Dr. Julius Malombe at the Governor’s Boardroom. The engagement reflects the county administration’s continued focus on strategic partnerships to accelerate water infrastructure development, strengthen essential services and ensure more residents gain access to safe and dependable water supplies.
