Kitui Central MP hopeful Mutisya Mwema has received an endorsement from community health promoters (CHPs) following a consultative meeting with the grassroots health workers on Wednesday.
The health promoters, who serve more than 100 households each within their respective areas of operation, pledged to support Mwema’s bid for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
During the meeting, their leaders said community health promoters had not received adequate attention from other political aspirants, accusing some of overlooking their concerns despite their important role in delivering healthcare services at the household level.
They declared their commitment to mobilising support for Mwema, whom they described as a leader who understands the needs of ordinary residents.
In his response, Mwema welcomed the endorsement and pledged to work closely with the community health promoters throughout his campaigns, recognising their grassroots networks and connection with local households.
The MP hopeful outlined his development priorities, promising to support day-school education, expand household electricity access, and promote the empowerment of women, young people and special interest groups across Kitui Central if elected in 2027.
He also challenged voters to scrutinise the track records, qualifications and curriculum vitae of all parliamentary aspirants before making their choices, urging residents to elect leaders who understand and reflect the aspirations of the local community.
The community health promoters also praised Mwema for creating business opportunities for residents of Kitui Central and beyond through his business ventures, saying his economic activities had earned him recognition among different groups.
The endorsement adds the community health promoters to the growing list of grassroots groups expressing support for Mwema’s political ambitions. However, the 2027 contest remains open, with voters ultimately set to determine who will represent Kitui Central in Parliament.
