President William Ruto has commissioned Kathekani Senior School in Kibwezi East Constituency, Makueni County, marking a major milestone in efforts to improve access to quality education and modern learning facilities.
The modern boarding school features eight classrooms, four laboratories, an administration block and two dormitory blocks, among other amenities. The facility was constructed under the Kenya Railways Relocation Action Plan following the impact of the Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Phase I project on public institutions.
The SGR construction affected 25 public institutions, including 12 primary schools and eight secondary schools, which have since been rebuilt. The reconstruction programme seeks to restore essential learning facilities and provide students with improved environments for academic development.
President Ruto was accompanied by Kitui South MP Dr Racheal Kaki Nyamai, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna and other leaders during the commissioning ceremony.
The new school is expected to expand access to secondary education while providing learners with improved classroom, laboratory and boarding facilities to support academic performance and overall student development.
