Kitui County Assembly Hon. Kinengo Warns Party Against Ignoring Voters’ Choices
Wiper Patriotic Front is facing growing criticism over its choice of candidate for the Migwani by-election, with concerns emerging that the party’s decision to nominate a preferred candidate could cost it the seat.
Critics argue that the candidate, popularly referred to as *Mr Bookshop*, lost public support the moment he was imposed as the party’s choice, accusing Wiper of undermining internal democracy and ignoring the wishes of the electorate.
The controversy has sparked wider debate in Kitui County, where some voices insist that political parties must allow voters and grassroots supporters to determine their preferred leaders rather than impose candidates from above.
Kitui County Assembly Hon. Kinengo has criticised what he described as Wiper’s repeated failure to embrace democratic processes, warning that the Migwani contest could become a lesson for the party.
“Wiper should not impose a leader on the people. This time round, we shall teach them a lesson which they will never forget,” Kinengo said.
The unfolding contest also raises questions about Wiper’s broader political ambitions as the party seeks to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political observers argue that if the party struggles to unite its supporters behind a candidate in a local by-election, it could face an even greater challenge building a formidable coalition for the presidency.
The message from critics is clear: Wiper must prioritise internal democracy, consultation and unity if it hopes to retain the confidence of its supporters and deliver decisive electoral victories.

**The big question remains: If Wiper cannot unite and win an MCA seat, how will it convince Kenyans that it is ready to win the presidency?**
