Kitui County Assembly Member for Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward, Hon. Mark Ndingo criticized the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, terming the move politically miscalculated and counterproductive.
Speaking during KBC Channel 1’s Eyes on Politics morning show on Monday, Ndingo said the attempt to oust Gachagua has inadvertently boosted his popularity in the national political scene.
“The impeachment has only made Rigathi Gachagua more popular. It was an ill-advised move that energized his Mt Kenya political base,” Ndingo remarked.
Also present on the show was Tana River Senator Hon. Danson Mungatana, who engaged in a discussion on national unity and the direction of Kenyan politics.
Ndingo, a governance expert, emphasized the importance of local politics and urged leaders to focus on service delivery and development rather than divisive politics. He called for a unifying approach in leadership, warning against polarizing tactics that could derail progress at both county and national levels.
“Politics is local. Leaders must prioritize the needs of the people and push for inclusive development. We must move away from divisive strategies,” he added.
The MCA’s remarks come at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is witnessing realignments and shifting allegiances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
