Tension in Mwingi as Makau Accuses MP Mulyungi of Backing V

Political temperatures in Mwingi Central are rising after parliamentary aspirant CPA John Makau accused area MP Gideon Mulyungi of fostering intimidation and violence in Mwingi town.

Speaking amid growing concerns over insecurity, Makau alleged that organized groups have been unleashed to harass and assault residents, particularly women, creating fear within the town. He warned that such incidents risk undermining democratic space and could negatively impact the broader presidential ambitions of Kalonzo Musyoka.

Makau, who is seeking the Wiper Democratic Movement ticket for Mwingi Central, said leaders must uphold peace as the region heads toward party primaries. He maintained that campaigns should be issue-based rather than driven by intimidation and chaos.

At the same time, the aspirant commended security agencies in Mwingi town for stepping in to restore calm following a series of disturbances that had unsettled residents in recent days. He called for sustained vigilance to ensure such incidents do not recur.

The unfolding political contest is expected to pit Makau against the incumbent Mulyungi in what is shaping up to be a closely watched nomination battle within the Wiper party.
