PS Jonathan Mueke Highlights Progress in Kenya’s Livestock Sector Ahead of KMEAT 2026

The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, has said Kenya’s livestock sector continues to register steady progress through ongoing reforms, increased investment in value addition, improved disease control measures, and expanded market opportunities.

Speaking during the KMEAT 2026 Partners Briefing Breakfast Session, Mueke said the government is working closely with stakeholders, development partners, private sector players, and county governments to strengthen collaboration ahead of the upcoming KMEAT 2026 conference.

The PS noted that discussions during the meeting focused on practical interventions across the livestock value chain, including improving productivity, strengthening feed and fodder systems, enhancing livestock genetics, promoting value addition, expanding processing infrastructure, and attracting more private sector investment into the sector.

Mueke also highlighted the upcoming launch of ANITRAC, Kenya’s Animal Identification and Traceability System, saying the platform will play a key role in improving disease surveillance, enhancing food safety assurance, and boosting market confidence in Kenyan livestock products both locally and internationally.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the livestock sector into a more competitive, sustainable, and commercially driven industry capable of supporting farmers’ livelihoods and contributing to the country’s economic growth.
