Kitui East Member of Parliament Hon. Nimrod Mbai has welcomed the ongoing tarmacking of the Zombe–Chuluni Road, describing the project as a long-awaited milestone for residents of the constituency.
Speaking on the progress of the road works, the legislator expressed satisfaction that the project has finally moved from promise to reality, noting that the first six kilometres are already under tarmac construction.
“At long last, Zombe–Chuluni Road is a reality. The first six kilometres are now under tarmac,” said Mbai, terming the development a major boost for transport, trade, and connectivity in the region.
The MP attributed the project’s implementation to the leadership of President William Ruto, whom he praised for supporting infrastructure development in Kitui East and other parts of the country.
Mbai further extended his gratitude to what he referred to as the “Mbaya Mbaya Liberation Front,” a phrase he used to celebrate what he described as the liberation and transformation of the region through development initiatives.
In his remarks, the legislator also referenced a conversation he had with Senior Chief Kitonga Wa Muthangya, whom he described as an influential elder in the area. Mbai said the elder remained optimistic about the region’s future development.
The outspoken MP maintained that the road project would significantly improve access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other essential services for residents living along the Zombe–Chuluni corridor.
According to local residents, the road has for many years been a source of concern due to its poor condition, especially during rainy seasons when transportation becomes difficult.

Mbai also used the occasion to send a political message to his rivals, suggesting that he remains firmly in control of the constituency’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.
The road project is expected to accelerate economic activities in Kitui East, with leaders and residents expressing hope that the remaining sections will be completed within the planned timelines to fully unlock the area’s development potential.
