Deputy Gov Wambua Kanani Leads Kitui Delegation at National Productivity Conference in Nairobi

Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani is among senior government officials attending Kenya’s inaugural National Productivity and Performance Conference currently underway at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi. The three-day national forum has brought together leaders from government, the private sector, development partners, academia, and policy institutions to deliberate on strategies aimed at enhancing productivity, fiscal sustainability, and efficient service delivery across the country.

The conference, themed “Productivity for Fiscal Sustainability and Efficient Service Delivery,” comes at a time when counties and national government agencies are seeking innovative approaches to improve public sector performance and accelerate economic growth. Representing Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration, Deputy Governor Kanani highlighted Kitui County’s commitment to strengthening productivity and performance management systems to ensure greater accountability, efficiency, and value for money in public service delivery.

Kitui County continues to distinguish itself as the first county in Kenya to mainstream productivity as a key pillar of governance and development. Under Governor Malombe’s leadership, the county has implemented reforms aimed at enhancing institutional performance, improving revenue mobilization, and promoting a results-oriented culture across government departments. These efforts are intended to fast-track the county’s transformation agenda while delivering better services to residents.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, county officials noted that despite significant progress, challenges remain in integrating productivity metrics, rewarding outstanding performance, and linking remuneration to measurable outcomes. Addressing these gaps is expected to improve efficiency, strengthen institutional accountability, and enhance citizen satisfaction through improved service delivery.

The conference is expected to generate practical policy recommendations and collaborative partnerships that will help both national and county governments improve productivity, stimulate economic growth, and build sustainable public institutions. For Kitui County, the forum presents a valuable opportunity to share experiences, learn best practices, and reinforce its position as a leader in public sector productivity reforms.

“Delivering the Kitui County Promise” remains the guiding principle of Governor Malombe’s administration as it continues to champion innovative governance and development initiatives for the benefit of county residents, TCD digital reports
