Kitui Municipality Holds Public Participation on Proposed Stray Livestock Control Bill, 2026

The Acting Kitui Municipal Manager Madam Irene, together with the County Government Attorney, on Friday led a public participation forum that brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the proposed Kitui Municipality Stray Livestock Control Bill, 2026. The consultative meeting provided residents, livestock owners, traders, professionals and other stakeholders with an opportunity to review the draft legislation and submit their views before it is tabled for consideration.

The proposed Bill seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the prevention, regulation and management of stray livestock within Kitui Municipality. It outlines measures for regulating livestock movement, establishing municipal livestock pounds, impounding stray animals, protecting public health and safety, safeguarding roads and other public infrastructure, and promoting responsible livestock ownership.

Speaking during the forum, officials emphasized that public participation is a constitutional requirement and an important step in ensuring the proposed law reflects the views and interests of all stakeholders. Once the public views are incorporated, the Bill will proceed through the necessary legislative process before being considered by the Kitui County Assembly.
