Nimrod Mbai Signals UDA Takeover Bid in Kitui, Warns Party ‘Busy Bodies’ Ahead of 2027 Elections

Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai has intensified his push to position himself as a key force in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership in Kitui County, declaring that the party will emerge stronger and take control of the county’s political landscape in the 2027 General Election.

Mbai, a vocal supporter of President William Ruto’s administration, said political power is not handed over but must be pursued through determination, strategy and grassroots mobilisation. He argued that the time has come for a new generation of leaders to prepare to take over leadership responsibilities after President Ruto completes his constitutional term in 2032.

The Kitui East MP warned what he termed as “busy bodies” against interfering with UDA party affairs in the county, insisting that the party’s leadership and nomination processes must be guided by merit, loyalty and commitment to the party’s agenda.

Mbai specifically challenged leaders seeking to influence UDA operations from outside the party structures, saying the 2027 elections will not be business as usual. He maintained that only leaders with genuine support from the people and those who have worked for the party will secure nominations.

“The era where people receive positions without the support of the electorate is over. UDA will nominate leaders who deserve to represent the people,” Mbai said, while rallying party supporters to remain united ahead of the polls.

The legislator expressed confidence that UDA will make significant gains in Kitui County, predicting that the party will secure a majority in the County Assembly. He said his leadership will work towards delivering 21 elected Members of the County Assembly under the UDA ticket.

Mbai’s remarks signal an aggressive political strategy by UDA ahead of 2027, as the party seeks to expand its influence in Kitui, a region traditionally dominated by opposition politics. His statements are likely to fuel debate over the future political direction of the county and the emerging contest for influence among different political camps.
