Commisioner Ben Muasya Questions Use of KSh170 Million NG-CDF in Kitui West

By LEAD ADMIN

Kitui West Mp hopeful Commissioner Ben Muasya has questioned the priorities behind the allocation and utilization of the KSh170 million National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Kitui West, arguing that the spending does not adequately address the constituency’s most pressing needs.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the family of Engineer Vincent following the death of his grandfather, the late John Malusi Kanywa, Muasya said only KSh35 million of the NG-CDF allocation has been set aside for bursaries, leaving thousands of needy students with an average of about KSh2,000 each in school fees support.

He noted that approximately KSh140 million has instead been directed toward development projects and contracts, raising concerns about whether the expenditure reflects the immediate priorities of residents, many of whom continue to struggle with school fees, electricity access, and other basic services.

Muasya said the situation has left many residents questioning who truly benefits from the constituency’s development budget, arguing that public resources should be directed toward projects that have a direct and meaningful impact on people’s daily lives.

He further claimed that despite nearly a decade of the current leadership, many residents are yet to identify transformative development projects that have significantly improved livelihoods across the constituency. According to him, some areas, including perceived political strongholds, continue to lack essential infrastructure such as electricity.

The Commissioner maintained that while development projects have been implemented in parts of the constituency, many communities still feel left behind and continue to face challenges in accessing basic public services and economic opportunities.

Muasya called for greater transparency, accountability, and public participation in the planning and implementation of NG-CDF projects, saying development funds should be aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people of Kitui West.
