Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya has strongly condemned what he described as the mocking, bullying, harassment, humiliation and intimidation of two Kitui women leaders by former Governor Charity Ngilu over their support for President William Ruto.
Kinengo said the former governor’s remarks directed at Hon. Priscilla Makumi and Hon. Deborah Mutuku, in which they were allegedly referred to as “poor” because of their political stand, were unfortunate and unacceptable. He argued that the two leaders deserved respect despite holding different political views.
The Speaker noted that experienced leaders should mentor and encourage young politicians instead of ridiculing them in public. According to him, political competition should never be used as a platform to demean or intimidate emerging leaders.
“I urge all of us to exercise political tolerance as we head towards the 2027 General Election. We do not have to share the same political affiliation, but in the end we must remain one community despite our divergent political opinions,” Kinengo said.
He emphasized that democracy allows every leader and citizen the freedom to associate with any political party or leader of their choice without fear of harassment, threats or discrimination.
Kinengo further maintained that leaders from Kitui County who have chosen to support the Kenya Kwanza administration should not be intimidated. He said no one would instill fear in leaders backing the national government under President William Ruto.
The Speaker called on political leaders across Kitui County to uphold civility, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum, urging them to prioritize unity and development over personal attacks.
