Charity Ngilu Returns to Political Limelight as Azimio Reshapes Strategy Ahead of 2027 Polls

Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has made a notable return to the national political scene after months of maintaining a low public profile, joining Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other opposition leaders during a key Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition meeting in Nairobi.

Ngilu attended the Joint Council and National Executive Committee meeting held at the SKM Command Centre on Monday, August 3, 2026, where senior opposition figures discussed the coalition’s future direction and preparations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The appearance of the former Cabinet Minister has renewed speculation over her political plans and influence within opposition circles, especially as Azimio begins reorganising its structures and strengthening its strategy ahead of the upcoming electoral contest.

The meeting, chaired by Kalonzo Musyoka, brought together leaders from various parties within the coalition as they sought to build unity and coordinate their approach to the 2027 elections.

Ngilu, a veteran politician with decades of experience in national leadership, has remained a key figure in Kenyan politics, having previously served as Kitui Governor, Cabinet Secretary and a long-serving Member of Parliament.

Her renewed engagement with opposition leaders signals that she could play a significant role in shaping political conversations in Ukambani and beyond as parties position themselves for the 2027 General Election.
