A fresh political row has erupted in Mwingi West following the release of a Mizani Africa opinion poll placing Jonathan Ngenga ahead of incumbent MP Charles Nguna in the 2027 parliamentary race.
The poll, dated August 12, 2026, gives Ngenga 45.5 per cent, while Nguna is placed second with 34.2 per cent. Stephen Katana follows with 2.4 per cent, Koki Musau 1.4 per cent and Bernard Munywoki 0.5 per cent, with 16 per cent of respondents undecided.
However, Nguna’s allies and supporters have dismissed the findings, questioning the credibility of the poll and alleging that Ngenga’s camp could have influenced or commissioned research designed to give their candidate favourable ratings.
They argue that the figures do not reflect the political mood on the ground, maintaining that Mwingi West residents remain firmly behind MP Charles Nguna.
The supporters point to Nguna’s ongoing development and public engagement activities across the constituency as evidence of what they describe as his strong grassroots support.
The allegations that the poll was paid for by Ngenga’s opponents have not been independently substantiated, while Mizani Africa has not been shown to have acknowledged any such arrangement.
The poll has nevertheless injected fresh momentum into the emerging Mwingi West political contest, with both camps expected to intensify their grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With 16 per cent of respondents still undecided, the race remains open, and the coming months are likely to provide a clearer picture of the strength of the competing campaigns.
