Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo has called on leaders across the county to respect one another and embrace political tolerance, regardless of their ideological or party differences. Kinengo urged leaders to put the interests of the people ahead of political competition and foster an environment where divergent political views can coexist peacefully.
The Speaker said Kitui needs peaceful and development-oriented politics that unite communities rather than divide them. He cautioned leaders against making statements or engaging in actions that could incite residents, fuel hostility or sow hatred among people because of their political affiliations.
Kinengo cited a recent incident in which two nominated Kitui MCAs were allegedly chased away from public gatherings by a senior politician after they were associated with President William Ruto. He said such incidents are unfortunate and undermine the principles of democratic participation, where every leader should be free to associate and engage politically without intimidation.
He called on political leaders to exercise restraint and respect the choices and affiliations of their colleagues, stressing that political differences should not become a source of personal hostility or public confrontation. Kinengo said leaders have a responsibility to demonstrate maturity and tolerance because their conduct influences how communities interact with one another.
Kinengo further urged Kitui leaders to embrace cohesion and work together despite their political differences, saying development should remain the common priority. He emphasized that political competition is temporary, while the people of Kitui must continue living and working together long after elections are over.
