In a July 2026 judgment, judges overturned a High Court decision and awarded a husband 80% of the couple’s Avenue Park house, while the wife received only 20%, because he took the loan and paid it from his salary.
The court made it clear: marriage itself gives you no fixed share. You only walk away with what you can prove you contributed.
And this is where I get quiet for a second…
If, after years of cooking, cleaning, carrying children, and holding the home together, a woman still has to “prove” her contribution like she’s applying for a job… what exactly is the point of marriage in this country?
You out the best years of your life, and the court could still treat you like a visitor who needs receipts.
Is marriage still worth it for us, or have we been sold something that no longer protects us?
Either way the law is the law and must be obeyed.
