Ikutha Girls High School from Kitui County has once again made Kenya proud after securing third place in the girls’ Basketball 3×3 category at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games held in Morogoro, Tanzania. The school emerged among the top teams in East Africa, finishing behind champions Seroma CHS of Uganda and St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale of Kenya.
The remarkable achievement highlights the growing dominance of Ikutha Girls in school basketball, with the Kitui-based institution continuing to raise its profile on both national and regional stages. The team displayed resilience, talent and determination throughout the tournament, competing against some of the strongest schools from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
Kenya performed strongly in the competition, with three schools featuring among the top five positions. St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale finished second, while Cheptil Girls secured fifth place, underlining Kenya’s strength in the girls’ 3×3 basketball category.
Ikutha Girls had earlier advanced to the FEASSA semi-finals after an impressive run in the tournament, earning recognition as one of East Africa’s rising basketball powerhouses. Their podium finish is expected to inspire more young athletes from Kitui County and the wider Ukambani region to pursue excellence in sports.
Education stakeholders, sports enthusiasts and leaders from Kitui County have congratulated the team for carrying the county’s flag high and demonstrating that talent from rural areas can compete successfully at the regional level.
The achievement adds another chapter to Ikutha Girls’ growing sporting legacy and cements the school’s place among East Africa’s elite secondary school basketball teams.
