The race to succeed Hon. Makali Mulu in the Kitui Central parliamentary seat is heating up as candidates intensify their campaigns. A recent opinion poll conducted across the five wards indicates that Crispus Ileli, a former Chief of Staff, is leading the pack, with significant voter support across the constituency.
In Miambani Ward, Ileli has emerged as the clear favorite, with 70% of respondents expressing their intention to vote for him. Henry Kituti trails with 20% support, while Kyalo Muli has garnered 10%. Bonnie Musambi and Christopher Nzilu received no backing among those surveyed in this ward.
The contest tightens in Township Ward, where Ileli and Musambi are running neck and neck. Ileli received 40% support, closely followed by Musambi at 30%. Kyalo Muli secured one vote, while 20% of respondents remain undecided.
Musambi takes the lead in Mulango Ward, with 50% of voters expressing support for him. Ileli follows with 20%, while Wamavati received support from 20% of the respondents. Here, 30% of those polled are still undecided.
Ileli’s strongest showing is in Kyangwithya East, where he commands overwhelming support, with 90% of voters favoring him. Kyalo Muli managed to attract 10% of the votes, while other aspirants received no support.
In Kyangwithya West, the race is more uncertain. Ileli has the backing of 30% of the respondents, while Nzilu received support from 10%. A significant 60% of those surveyed are still undecided.
As the campaign season progresses, candidates are expected to intensify their efforts to win over the undecided voters and solidify their positions. The battle for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat promises to be a closely watched contest.
