Cabinet Secretary for labor and social protection, Dr. Alfred Mutua, hosted a transformative Lower Eastern Youth Empowerment Meeting on Friday at the Bomas of Kenya. The forum brought together youth leaders from Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni counties, offering them a platform to engage in discussions on personal growth, professional development, and national opportunities.
The meeting featured insightful sessions led by professionals and leaders, addressing critical topics such as:
- Succeeding in the Job Market: Practical advice on CV preparation, professional presentation, and interview readiness.
- Substance Abuse Awareness: Highlighting the dangers of drug use and its detrimental effects on young people’s futures.
- Sex Education: Encouraging informed decisions to promote health and well-being.
- Leadership and Decorum: Instilling respect, constructive criticism, and effective communication.
- Financial Literacy: Emphasizing the importance of saving, investing, and prudent money management.
- Digital Footprints: Educating youth on the risks of harmful online behavior and its long-term implications.
The forum also provided a platform for the youth to voice their challenges, ideas, and solutions. CS Mutua assured the attendees of the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns and emphasized the importance of unlocking their full potential.
“With the right skills, preparation, and mindset, Kenyan youth can compete and thrive globally,” said Dr. Mutua, encouraging the youth to broaden their job search beyond borders.
Dr. Mutua also highlighted President William Ruto’s youth-centric initiatives, including:
- Skills Development and Job Creation
- Affordable Education Programs
- Digital Jobs and Financial Support, such as the Hustler Fund
He urged the youth to leverage government opportunities, including scholarships, training programs, and global job placements through the Ministry of Labour’s Labour Mobility Initiative.
“Unity of purpose is essential for progress. By working together with the government, we can unlock opportunities and ensure youth empowerment,” he added.
