The 6th edition of the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair, held at the Ithookwe Showgrounds, attracted thousands of exhibitors and notable attendees, including Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe who officiated the biggest attended trade fair show in recent time.
He has accampained by Deputy Governor Hon. Kanani Wambua, Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kinengo Katisya, and Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu.
The event also saw participation from Tharaka Nithi and Tana River County officials, farmers, and various stakeholders from different sectors.
Chief Officer for Agriculture, Madam Glady Kivoto, confirmed over 3,000 exhibitors attended the event, showcasing the latest advancements in farming techniques and technologies. The show served as a platform for fostering business linkages and strategic partnerships among farmers, entrepreneurs, investors, and consumers.
Governor Dr. Julius Malombe emphasized the importance of climate resilience in agricultural practices. He highlighted the county’s commitment to promoting climate-smart agriculture as a response to global climatic challenges.
“The agricultural sector has been affected by extreme weather events, erratic rainfall, and reduced productivity, increasing the vulnerability of rural communities,” the governor said. He pledged continued support for initiatives that empower the agricultural community with vital knowledge and resources.
Dr. Malombe also shared that the county, in collaboration with the African Development Bank, is constructing the Meko ma Kaongoa Grading and Marketing Shed and Mwangeni Livestock Sale Yard in Athi ward. These projects aim to support marketing and value addition for local farmers.Kitui CECM for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, addressed participants, pledging continued support for farmers through enhanced agricultural extension services.
This initiative aims to empower the agricultural community and ensure sustainable growth.Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu praised the county government for reviving the agricultural show, noting its significant impact on the county’s agricultural sector. Assembly Speaker Hon. Kinengo Katisya commended Governor Malombe for his leadership in reviving the county and improving livelihoods.
The event underscored the theme of “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture for Food & Nutrition Security & Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” highlighting the county’s commitment to sustainable agricultural development.
