Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe today officially launched the FY2024/2025 Pro Poor Fees Support Programme, aimed at supporting 9,433 financially disadvantaged learners across the county.
The programme, which covers all levels of education including universities, tertiary institutions, vocational training centers (VTCs), technical colleges, secondary schools, and special needs learners, is part of the Governor’s commitment to improving education access and standards in the county.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Malombe emphasized the importance of education as a key pillar in socioeconomic development.
“Education is a fundamental human right and a key tool for reducing poverty, promoting gender equality, and fostering peace,” he stated, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to making education accessible for all.
The Governor described the initiative as a deliberate effort to prioritize education in Kitui County, highlighting his government’s partnerships with the national government to raise educational standards.
He further encouraged youth to enroll in vocational training centers, stressing the importance of acquiring market-relevant skills for employment and self-reliance.
“Investing in education is not just about funding. It is about building future leaders, innovators, and thinkers,” he said.
The Governor also outlined his administration’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure to create a conducive learning environment.
Members of the County Assembly present at the event praised the Governor’s leadership and pledged to support the programme, describing it as a transformative step toward enhancing education in Kitui.
The Pro Poor Fees Support Programme is expected to significantly impact the lives of beneficiaries and contribute to bridging the gap in access to quality education in the region.
