On Friday, July 26, 2024, the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair at the Ithookwe Showgrounds drew an unprecedented crowd, tripling last year’s attendance. Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, the Kitui County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Livestock, addressed participants, emphasizing the county’s commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector. He pledged continued support for farmers through enhanced agricultural extension services, aiming to empower the community with essential knowledge and resources for sustainable growth.
The event’s overwhelming success was evident as all buses from primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, and universities were fully booked, with some making multiple trips to the showgrounds. This surge in attendance reflects a thriving local economy, as businesses such as bodaboda services, hotels, and Jua Kali artisans benefited from the influx of visitors.
Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, EGH, was at the forefront of the event, fulfilling the “Kitui Promise” with initiatives that have positively impacted the county’s economy and agricultural prospects. The governor’s efforts were warmly received, highlighting the importance of such events in driving economic growth and community development.
