The Institute of Public Finance (IPF) and the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) conducted a workshop in Kitui town on Friday, aimed at enhancing gender awareness in the budget-making process at both national and county levels.
The forum was led by Nominated Senator Hon. Beth Syengo who is deputy Treasurer, alongside officials from IPF and KEWOPA. The initiative seeks to empower women leaders and participants with the knowledge and skills needed to influence budgeting processes to better reflect gender-sensitive issues.
In her address, Senator Syengo emphasized the importance of integrating gender perspectives in public finance, noting that women’s participation in budget decision-making is crucial to achieving equitable development.
“This forum is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that women have a voice in shaping financial policies that impact them directly, both at the grassroots and national levels,” she said.The workshop provided a platform for women leaders from various sectors to engage in discussions on how gender-responsive budgeting can be implemented in Kenya’s financial planning and allocation processes.
The forum also underscored the need for continuous capacity-building among women leaders to enhance their effectiveness in advocacy for gender equity in financial policies.
Participants expressed their commitment to ensuring that gender considerations are prioritized in future budgets, with a particular focus on sectors such as health, education, and economic empowerment for women.
