The Kitui County Assembly Sectorial Committee on Agriculture, Water, and Irrigation has called for the immediate replacement of aging water pumps at the Kiambere water treatment facility. This recommendation came after a fact-finding inspection by the committee, which revealed that the old pumps are inefficient, consuming excessive power while delivering insufficient water.
Led by Migwani Ward MCA, Hon. Harrison Maluki, the committee inspected the Kiambere-Mwingi water pipeline, which supplies water to Mwingi town and its surrounding areas. The inspection highlighted frequent pipeline bursts, especially near River Kamuwongo, and the outdated pumps as key issues contributing to the persistent water shortages in the region.
Hon. Maluki emphasized the urgency of replacing the pumps to ensure consistent water supply to the affected areas. KIMWASCO, the company managing the facility, acknowledged that the pumps have been in use for over 20 years and are no longer performing optimally.
