Kitui County, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, is experiencing significant improvements in revenue collection, thanks to strategic reforms that have been implemented since he took office. Governor Malombe’s administration has focused on sealing loopholes that were previously draining county resources, leading to a remarkable turnaround in the county’s financial performance.
One of the governor’s first major actions was to introduce a two-pronged approach aimed at enhancing efficiency and accountability in revenue collection. First, he initiated the automation of all revenue services, which is currently 90 percent complete. Second, he appointed a highly competent and experienced officer to lead the county’s revenue docket, ensuring that operations are managed effectively.
The automation process has already had a profound impact on the county’s financial health. In the ?2023/2024 financial year, Kitui County collected Ksh612 million in revenue, a substantial increase from the Ksh473 million collected the previous year. This improvement has been **acknowledged by the Auditor General**, who noted the county’s progress in improving transparency and accountability in revenue collection.
As the automation process nears completion, with the goal of achieving 100 percent paperless operations by next year it is anticipated that Kitui’s own-source revenue will continue to rise. These efforts are poised to greatly benefit the county’s residents by providing the resources needed for development projects and improved services.
Governor Malombe’s focus on modernizing revenue collection systems and ensuring competent leadership in key departments has been a game-changer for Kitui County, setting a new standard for financial management and efficiency in county governance.
