Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe today hosted a delegation from Alpex Consulting Africa Limited (ACAL) for a courtesy call at his office boardroom as the county gears up for the first Annual Performance Assessment (APA1) of the Second Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP II).
The ACAL team, led by Samuel Kaniu, is conducting a five-day evaluation in Kitui and Mwingi Municipalities. The exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.
Kitui is one of 45 counties being assessed for compliance with the minimum conditions and performance standards required to qualify for the Urban Development Grant (UDG) under the World Bank-funded KUSP II program. The UDG is designed to finance investments in urban infrastructure and service delivery, with citizen participation playing a critical role in identifying priorities through municipal boards.
Governor Malombe commended the consulting team for their expert guidance during the assessment process. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to meeting UDG requirements and expressed confidence that Kitui would secure the funding needed to advance urban development projects.
“This assessment is a critical step in accessing resources to improve infrastructure and services for our urban centers. We are committed to ensuring full compliance to realize these benefits for our people,” the governor stated.
Present at the meeting were CECM for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development Fredrick Kimanga, Chief Officer for Urban Development Evans Mutemi, Acting Kitui Municipal Manager Irene Kaindi, Mwingi Municipal Manager Alex Mutemi, and ACAL Assessor Diana Nasieku, among others.
The APA1 evaluation marks a significant milestone in Kitui’s efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and foster sustainable development through strategic partnerships and community-driven initiatives.
